The Government of Odisha (GoO) through the Transport Commissioner-cum-Chairperson, STA is desirous to promote the road safety & driver training institute in the State of Odisha in the Heavy Motor Vehicle sector through public private partnership (PPP) and as a part of this effort, it has constructed a Heavy Motor Vehicle Training Institute at Chhatia in the District of Jajpur through financial assistance from Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India.
The Government of Odisha is interested to operate and manage the training institute through “PPP” basis with an aim to impart quality training to drivers in the Heavy Motor Vehicle segment in the State of Odisha and as part of this endeavor the Government of Odisha had floated a request for proposal dated March, 09, 2010 for inviting and issued a letter of interest dated July, 18, 2011 declaring M/s Ashok Leyland Limited as preferred bidder and entered the memorandum of Agreement with the Ashok Leyland.
Society for Govt. of Odisha – Ashok Leyland HMV Driver Training Institute established during 2011 and registered under Odisha Society’s registration act XXI of 1860 under No. 23392/13 of 2012-2013.
The Institute was inaugurated by then Hon’ble Minister of Finance Govt. of Odisha, Shri Prafulla Chandra Ghadai, on 23rd of Dec 2011.
To develop fresh cadre of high quality drivers to meet the demand of transport industry.
To make local youths employable by adopting skill development in HMV driving private and government jobs where driving is a pre- requisite,
To enhance the social status and the quality of life of drivers.
To inculcate the traffic discipline, road safety awareness among road users and reduce road accident.
To induce a culture of fuel saving among vehicle users by enlightening on fuel saving driving technics and proper vehicle maintenance.
Contribute in the country’s overall economy.
The Institute is imparting training of Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver training to the unemployed youths of Odisha. This training program totally sponsored by Govt. of Odisha through office of the State Transport Authority, Cuttack, Odisha funded scheme and Odisha State Employment mission funded scheme. By this time the Institute offering refresher Training on Fuel saving, Road Rule Regulation and safe driving to Odisha State Road Transport Corporation Drivers, Corporate Customers and walk in customers at a nominal cost and most of them already got employed in Govt. sectors & Private sectors. A total of 16,727 students passed out from this institute since its inception.
